 We offer a variety of dance classes: weekly group dance classes and fitness classes, pre-social dance classes and special classes and workshops. Ballroom  Dances

-           Waltz: The oldest dance known to ballroom, the Waltz is graceful and euphoric.

-           Foxtrot: Glitzy and reminiscent of Broadway, the Foxtrot is danced to show tunes and classic recording artists like Frank Sinatra.

-           Tango: The most dramatic of all Ballroom dances. Sharp, staccato and passionate it draws some moves from Flamenco.

-           Viennese Waltz: This is the most original form of Waltz; it’s very fast-paced with lots of rotating action.

-           Quickstep: An international Ballroom dance, the Quickstep is big, fast and danced to Big Band music.

 

Latin Dances

-           Salsa: A world-renowned, festive party dance. Full of quick footwork and flirty movement, Salsa is dancing to an intoxicating rhythm. Saturday nights at Simply Dance are devoted to this dance, come learn this weekend!

-           Cha Cha: A very staccato and lively dance, Cha Cha can be dance to many popular songs of today in addition to Latin classics.

-           Rumba:  From Cuba, the Rumba is considered the dance of love with its slow, habanera rhythms. If you’re interested in learning Latin dances, the Rumba is good place to start.

-           Samba: It’s the carnival dance of Mardi Gras! Samba has a pulsating, syncopated rhythm and is one of the most challenging Latin dances.

-           Bolero: Slowest of all Latin Rhythms, Bolero dancing allows for deep bends in the knee and very shaped patterns.

-           Merengue: The easiest of all Latin dances, allowing you to step on every beat. Merengue has a marching feeling to the legs with Latin motion throughout the body.

-           Bachata: Like the Merengue, but danced mostly side-to-side to a strong dotted rhythm.

 

Swing Dance

-           West Coast: The most sultry of all Swing dances. West Coast is danced to rhythm and blues music, disco hits and even more modern music.

-           East Coast: The mother of all Swing dance, East Coast consists of several rhythms, usually single and triple time. Contrary to popular belief, East Coast is a very smooth and sophisticated dance.

-           Lindy Hop:  Similar to East Coast Swing, but danced to eight-count timing. Lindy is the form of Swing best known for its kicks and hops.

-           Carolina Shag: The Swing sensations of the South, the Carolina Shag originated during the 1930’s in Charlotte, North Carolina. It’s a combination of East and West Coast Swing, with more hip motion.

 

Club-Style Dances

-           Night Club 2-Step:  Developed in the 1970’s for slow to moderate tempo music. Night Club 2-Step borrows bits and pieces from the Bossa Nova and Salsa, but the dance is entirely its own. Best danced to slow, romantic songs.

-           Hustle: Do the Hustle! A very versatile dance for today’s music - can be danced to popular artists like Jennifer Lopez and Janet Jackson in addition to disco hits from the 1970’s. The Hustle features a lot of turns and circular movements, and is sometimes danced in a slot. It’s flashy, quick and fun!

-           Argentine Tango: This dances uses the closest hold of all styles. While American Tango is all about aloof, dramatic movements, Argentine Tango is about the connection between two dancers. In its most practiced form, this dance is very precise, articulate and soft.

 

Fitness Classes

-           Hip-Hop Jazz Aerobics: Looking to get in really good shape? How about achieving a dancer’s body? This class uses dance stretches, hip-hop moves for an aerobic workout and an intense floor work session.

-           Nia: Nia is the barefoot boogie. Creative choreography fuses dance arts, martial arts and healing arts. Come express yourself in this high-intensity, low-impact workout.

-           Yoga: De-stress your body with yoga and breathwork. Tone your body and calm your mind.
