Ballroom, Latin & Swing
Ballroom Dances
- Waltz - The oldest dance known to ballroom, this dance is graceful and
euphoric. You can learn this classic dance from Marianna, Chris,
Janaira, Greg Wold, and Bob Gregory.
- Viennese Waltz - This is the most original form of waltz, it is very
fast-paced with lots of rotating action. It is taught by Marianna,
Chris, Janaira, and Greg Wold.
- Quickstep - An international ballroom dance, it's big, it's fast, and
danced to big band music like "Sing, Sing, Sing." Learn this from
Marianna, Chris, Janaira, and Greg Wold.
- Tango - This is the most dramatic of all Ballroom dances. It is
sharp and staccato, and draws some moves from flamenco dancing. Learn
the passion from Marianna, Chris, Janaira, Greg Wold, and Bob Gregory.
- Foxtrot - This dance is glitzy and reminiscent of Broadway, danced to
show tunes, and classic recording artists such as Frank Sinatra. You
can begin today with Marianna, Chris, Janaira, Greg Wold, and Bob Gregory.
Latin Dances
- Salsa - This is a world-renowned, festive party dance. Full of
quick footwork, and flirty movement, salsa is danced to an intoxicating
rhythm. Saturday nights at our studio are devoted to this dance, come learn
from Marianna this weekend!
- Cha Cha - This is a very staccato and lively dance. Cha Cha can be
danced to many popular songs of today, as well as the traditional Latin
classics. Learn this dance from Marianna, Chris, Janaira, Greg Wold,
and Bob Gregory.
- Rumba - From Cuba, the Rumba is considered the dance of love with it's
slow, habanera rhythms. If you are interested in learning the Latin
dances, this is a good place to start.
- Samba - It's the carnival dance of mardi gras! Samba has a
pulsating, syncopated, rhythm and is one of the most challenging Latin
dances. Marianna, Chris, Janaira, Greg Wold, and Bob Gregory can teach
you this Brazilian dance today!
- Bolero - Slowest of all Latin Rhythms, Bolero dancing allows for deep
bends in the knee and very shaped patterns. We'll explain more when
you arrive! Marianna, Chris, Janaira, Greg Wold, and Bob Gregory will
teach this dance.
- Merengue - This is the easiest of the Latin dances, allowing you to step
on every beat. Merengue has a marching feel to the legs, with Latin
motion throughout the body. All of our teachers are available to show
you this dance.
Swing Dances
- West Coast - This is the most sultry form of all the swing dances.
West Coast is danced in a slot to rhythm and blues music, disco hits, and
even more modern music. Marianna, Chris, Greg Wold, and Bob Gregory
will all teach this form of swing.
- East Coast - The mother of all swing dances, East Coast consists of
several rhythms. The two most popular rhythms are single time and
triple time. Contrary to popular belief, East Coast is a very smooth
and sophisticated dance. All of our teachers can teach this dance.
- Lindy Hop - This is similar to East Coast swing, but is danced to eight
count timing. Lindy is the form of swing best known for it's kicks and
hops
- Carolina Shag - The swing sensation of the south, this form of dance
originated during the 1930's in Charlotte, North Carolina. There is
more hip motion to this dance, which is somewhat of a combination of East
Coast and West Coast swing. Greg Wold specializes in these southern
moves and will teach you upon request.
Club Style Dances
- Night Club 2-step - This dance was developed in the 1970's for slow to
moderate tempo music. Bits and pieces are borrowed from the Bossa
Nova, and Salsa, but this dance is entirely its own and best danced to songs
like "Lady in Red" "Everlasting Love". This dance is very romantic and
relaxing. Marianna, Chris, Janaira, and Greg Wold can teach you this
dance.
- Hustle - Do the hustle! Very versatile dance for today's music,
can be danced to popular artists such as Jennifer Lopez, and Janet Jackson
as well as many disco hits from the 1970's. The hustle has very
turning and circular movements, and sometimes is danced in a slot.
It's flashy, quick and fun, no wonder it's Marianna's specialty!
However, you can also learn this dance from Chris as well.
- Argentine Tango - This dance uses the closest hold of all styles.
While the American Tango is all about aloof, dramatic movements, Argentine
Tango is about the connection between two dancers. In it's most
practiced form, this dance is very precise and articulate. It's the
social dance of Argentine evenings, and now growing in popularity throughout
